Patient Testimonial

Betty Hutchens

Betty Betty Hutchens, age 73, has five daughters and sings in the church choir.  She leads an active life, and is proud to say that she “bounces back quickly after surgery.”  So when it was time for her hip replacement, she knew exactly where she was going for rehab.   “I had already stayed at HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital after my knee replacements, and I returned to my home feeling strong,” Betty recalls.  “So when it was time for my hip replacement, I knew where I was going.”

HealthSouth, in Pleasant Gap, was Betty’s first choice after her hip surgery because she wanted to be more stable and secure, especially when she was home alone.   Betty explains, “I needed that extra care and rehabilitation, in a safe environment, before moving on to the next phase – going home.”  Betty adds, “After hip surgery, it made sense to stay in an acute rehab hospital and be safe while I was getting stronger. Whenever I needed someone, the staff was always there.”

Betty also appreciated help with other healthcare needs, especially right after surgery.  “It would have been difficult for me to manage my medications right after surgery.  HealthSouth did that and a whole lot more,” she says.

“It seemed like the staff would go out of their way to accommodate my needs, including the people who worked in food service.”  HealthSouth Case Manager Amy Adams coordinated Betty’s care, including her discharge planning.  Betty says, “Amy took care of all the little details for me when it was time to go home; that was a huge relief.”

And when Amy reflects on her time spent with Betty, she recalls, “It is so rewarding to set rehab goals with a patient and to see them achieve their goals and go home safer, stronger and more confident.  That’s what HealthSouth is all about.”
