Kim Germino, Case Manager
My husband suffered a spinal cord injury in 2010. When it was time for rehabilitation, he spent five weeks in a HealthSouth hospital. It was a difficult and life-changing time in our lives. I was not employed by HealthSouth at the time, but when I saw how the employees treated us, I knew that I wanted to someday "pay it forward." The assistance, understanding and kindness we received from HealthSouth staff made a huge difference in my husband’s recovery.
Prior to his spinal cord injury, my husband was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a PIAA/Little League baseball umpire. He even umpired at the Little League World Series in 2008.
Today, almost two years since the accident, he is able to walk with a cane. He can drive short distances. With the help of his camp buddies, he went hunting last fall! While he is no longer able to umpire, he still remains active in the organization as District Administration for PA District 5. I am so proud of my husband for never giving up, despite everything that he has been through!
I love working at HealthSouth Nittany Valley because of the family atmosphere between the staff, and the interaction I have, as a case manager, with patients and families. After my husband's injury (and at the risk of sounding cliche), we were on a sinking ship and HealthSouth was our lifesaver. And I am now proud to be part of the HealthSouth team!
